28 May Hunter Coffee Shop
The moment our Humewood-Cedarvale community has been waiting for has finally arrived. A clean, cool, independent coffee shop has officially opened within a small stretch of retail stores on the north side of Vaughan Rd. Hunter Coffee Shop took the leap, opening their doors to the public on May 26th to offer up great espresso-based drinks and a nice selection of sweet and savoury treats.
I walked into Hunter at 9:00am on opening day and I was pleasantly surprised to see Lori behind the counter (ex-barista of two of my local favs – The Sovereign and Oakwood Espresso). Lori and her husband, Ryan, decided to open up their own coffee shop, after Lori had worked for several years at a couple of great cafés in the area. We chatted about the area and how great of an opportunity there is to transform this small stretch of retail stores into a great spot for Humewood and Cedarvale residents.
Lori and Ryan put in many long nights to get Hunter up and running in the month of May – just in time for the summer. The shop is looking great, with a clean, modern aesthetic. Right now, Hunter is more of a take-out spot with a few stools and a bench out front, but we chatted about the possibility of adding washrooms downstairs, so they can add some more seats and tables for patrons to ‘sit and sip’. If you are coming by with a stroller – no worries here – plenty of room to roll right in and grab your favourite drink before heading to Cedarvale Park.
My first visit was a short one, as I hit the road to start my unbelievably busy Saturday with 12 showings booked – a personal one-day record. I definitely needed something to get me going and my double espresso was right on the mark.
