About The Neighbourhood

With its dense concentration of high-rise condominiums and apartment buildings, the Yonge and Davisville area is a popular spot for young singles and couples. More and more newlyweds are also choosing to start their families while living in these condos, which is prompting an increase in local daycare options.

Generally, more established families reside in the north end of this neighbourhood, on the side streets east and west of Yonge Street.

On the retail front, Yonge and Davisville offers two distinct but equally appealing destinations. Along Yonge Street, you’ll find bars, restaurants, cafés, high-end specialty food shops and more. Along Mount Pleasant Road, you’ll find antique and collectible stores, plus a few popular restaurants, coffee shops and gelaterias. There’s also an urban concept grocery store nestled in among the high-rise condos and apartments.

As for recreational amenities, the Yonge and Davisville neighbourhood offers an array of nearby fitness facilities and access to many large parks that offer something for everyone – joggers, walkers, kids and four-legged residents alike. On pleasant spring and summer days, the June Rowlands Park tends to be the go-to outdoor spot. For runners and bikers, there’s also the Kay Gardner Beltline Trail, which marks the neighbourhood’s southern-most border.

Coffee In The Hood

Rachel's Coffee House

10.25.2017

Looking forward to a busy day of meetings in midtown, I decided to stop in at Rachel’s Coffee on Yonge near Davisville for my morning Americano. Rachel’s Coffee House is an organic, fair trade, contemporary indie café that opened 5 years ago in this popular neighbourhood. Rachel’s has established a loyal following from its neighbourhood residents by offering great coffee, as well as a relaxing atmosphere. I used to live just south of this location in the Yonge and St. Clair neighbourhood, and I would often pop into Rachel’s on my walks up to Yonge and Eglinton.  The café is not only well known for its espresso based drinks, but also for its smoothies and organic food choices that include several sandwiches and their well-known Rainbow Salad.  As well, there is a good selection of made-in-house tasty treats that are baked on premises --- I highly recommend the big chocolate chip cookie! And for those with certain dietary needs, they also carry some great gluten free selections. Rachel’s is very well-staffed and is extremely service oriented in its approach. The staff are very friendly and focused on providing great service and friendly smiles.  You will often see them bringing drinks and food to a table and engaging in friendly conversation with their customers. It is certainly refreshing to see the attention to detail that has gone into operating this establishment. With the recent completion of several new condos in the area and others that are in the early development stage, just north and south of the café, Rachel’s will surely be a very popular local destination for a long time. Be sure to check out Rachel’s if you are on Yonge Street in midtown Toronto – you won’t be disappointed. -torontoyourway
